Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups strong brewed coffee or espresso, cooled

  • 3 tbsp coffee liqueur (Kahlúa, optional)

  • 6 large egg yolks

  • ¾ cup granulated sugar

  • 1 ¼ cups mascarpone cheese (room temp)

  • 1 ¾ cups heavy cream (cold)

  • 2 packs ladyfinger cookies (savoiardi)

  • Unsweetened cocoa powder (for dusting)

📖 Instructions

  1. Make coffee base: Brew coffee/espresso and stir in liqueur if using. Set aside to cool.

  2. Whip yolks & sugar: In a heatproof bowl, whisk egg yolks and sugar over simmering water (double boiler) for 5–6 minutes until thick and pale. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

  3. Add mascarpone: Whisk mascarpone into the cooled yolk mixture until smooth.

  4. Whip cream: In a separate bowl, beat heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold into mascarpone mixture to make the creamy filling.

  5. Assemble layers: Quickly dip each ladyfinger into cooled coffee (don’t oversoak). Arrange in a single layer in a glass dish. Spread half the mascarpone cream over cookies. Repeat with another coffee-soaked layer of ladyfingers and remaining cream.

  6. Chill: Cover and refrigerate at least 4 hours (overnight for best flavor).

  7. Finish & serve: Dust generously with cocoa powder before serving.

🔑 Notes

  • Use cold heavy cream for best whip volume.

  • Don’t oversoak ladyfingers or the dessert will be mushy.

  • Tastes even better after resting overnight in the fridge.

🌟 Variations

  • Kid-Friendly: Skip the liqueur and just use coffee or hot chocolate.

  • Chocolate Lovers: Add grated dark chocolate between layers.

  • Berry Twist: Top with raspberries or strawberries for freshness.

❄️ Storage

  • Fridge: Up to 3 days (covered).

  • Freezer: Freeze up to 1 month; thaw overnight in the fridge before serving.

💌 Final Notes

This homemade tiramisu is as good (if not better) than bakery versions — creamy mascarpone, airy whipped cream, and that rich coffee kick.
