Homemade Apple Crisp Recipe 🍎

By: Rabia

🍏 Ingredients

For the Apple Filling:

  • 6 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled, cored, and sliced

  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch (optional, for thicker filling)

For the Crisp Topping:

  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

🥣 Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or an 8×8-inch for thicker layers.

  2. Prepare the Apple Filling
In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and cornstarch (if using). Mix until evenly coated, then spread evenly into the prepared baking dish.

  3. Make the Crisp Topping
In another bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Pour in the melted butter and mix until the topping resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. Assemble the Apple Crisp
Evenly sprinkle the oat mixture over the apples, making sure to cover them completely.

  5. Bake
Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling around the edges.

  6. Cool & Serve
Allow to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce.

Tips

  • For extra crunch, add 1/2 cup of chopped pecans or walnuts to the topping.

  • Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for the best flavor balance.

  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven.
